Remarks

The second oldest (see the oldest of 1728), But rather - what concerns length, form and content of the particularly grave inscription - most notable grave stone in Mattersdorf / -burg (at least as regards the collection Ohler).

With this particular grave stone, we also choose our end of April 2010 begun the project "The Lost grave stones (Cemetery Mattersburg)". All 229 present in the collection Ohler, photos and copies, after all, single witness the large Jewish cemetery of the world-famous Jewish community, are online.
Special thanks to all commentators / commentators for their valuable support!

Max Grunwald leads the grave stone in his work "Mattersdorf" (Information of the Society for Jewish Folk 1924-1925, p 495) to (see also Kommentar von Chaya-Bathya Markovits). The copy Grunwald should here letters in full, positive and are shown lines meet (on the citation form is omitted for reasons of clarity):

Note by Max Grunwald at the end of the transcript: "It is worth noting the emergence Sabbatian moods of a series of inscriptions from this period."

In the introduction (top center) is named as twice the date of death, both times on something unusual way both the "prominent" Father:

Line 1-7:
(1) "is here / is recovered, the rabbi wife, Rev.,
(2), a heart wise woman ' (Exodus 35,25)With wisdom and prudence she fulfilled the will of their Creator, their Woltätigkeit was publicly announced with joy ' (Proverbs 1.20, the translation is inspired by Mendelssohn).
(3) As a lily she was, Mrs Tessa, daughter of H (err) u (nd) M (eisters) Wolf Brilin from wet (au). On 10th
(6) Jod (= Zahlenwert 10) Ijjar, Taw (= Zahlenwert 400) Qof (= Zahlenwert 100) Tet (= Zahlenwert 9) Waw (Zahlenwert 6) (= 515)
(7) n(ach der) k(leinen) Z(eitrechnung)“

Der Vater, Wolf ben Löb Nassau-Brilin, starb am Freitag, 9. Nisan 513 (= 13.
On page 371, he continues to write the name "Brilin", "Loew Nassau 'is our Benjamin Wolf b. Loeb Nassau in the probate of his father Asriel Brilin died in 1744, called. Wolf Nassau lived, like his father, under the protection of Wolf Wertheimer privilege ... Relations to home Wertheimer are primarily relational nature. Asriel Brilin ... was the mother of Wolf Wertheimer and Wertheimer Loew's brother ... Whether our Wolf, who also bears the name Brilin ... this family is related by blood or you belong to only by his wife Chana, must remain an open question. " (As an aside: One of the sons of Asriel Brilin, Isak, lived in Eisenstadt, was at the beginning of the 18th century on the board of the community, yet his son Manes was for libel by the community deprived of residence code).
Afterwards Wachstein called children of Wolf Nassau, reports Sara and in great detail about son Isak Nassau. A "Rösel" that should be our "Tessa", is unfortunately only briefly and only mentioned by name.

the mother of Tessa (and wife of Wolf Brilin) from Nassau to the grave, Chana Anna Nassau (Brilin) is loud Wachstein, no. 987, no longer exists. She passed away on 25 Schvat 529, that is on 02 February, 1769, also in Vienna.

The grave inscription of Tessa similar to her father's striking individual passages even verbatim, about left column last line of the eulogy: Miracle that Marry group "A sign he will establish (Isaiah 11.12) to collect ...". In the above inscription continues: Notes with purple "The outcasts of Israel, literally, of God's own people, '" in the inscription ihrese father: Bnei Jeshurun "Literally, the sons of Jeshurun. '"
miracle "Sign / miracle" is of course a pun on the origin of the Father "Wet (au)".

If (at Grunwald!) In the introduction capitalized and equipped with super-linear points words contain numerical values that have a contextual meaning, I can not understand it, unfortunately. In fact, missing namely at the first indication of the date of death, the death ... However, I can use the uppercase of Grunwald and provided with points letters in the grave inscription itself does not recognize. With one exception:
The numerical value "23" of the word for the month of death splendor the age of death of Tessa could be, provided it is born in 1732 (her mother Chana / Anna had been there about 23-year-old).

As Akrostycha found in the eulogy in both columns her first name and the title and first name of the father and blessings:

right column:
(8) to (20): "The rabbi wife woman Resl, i (hr memory) (to be preserved ÖGE) m"
Rebbetzin Mrs. Rizal Zell

left column:
(8) bis (19): „Tochter des H(errn) u(nd) M(eisters) Wolf, s(ein Andenken) m(öge bewahrt werden) Nassau“
Bat Harar Wolf Zell miracle

In the left column can be found above the word splendor Points to the numerical value "23" see above.

In the right column in row 20 are points above the capitalized words / letters The right, The accumulated number is based on 515, so the death of Tessa.
The text of the line is based on Daniel 12:13: "In security, they will rest and rise again at the end of the day to receive their inheritance."

Noteworthy in the eulogy that without exception all the verses is still on her "lower back.

In the genealogy portal geni.com we find in Resel Thebes no death date!

There is also argued that Tessa's wife coupling Thebes was. It would have to be doing around the Pressburger Stadlan coupling Thebes act (Joshua Lewin son James Chapel thebn, Verlag Tuschia, Warschau 1899). Sein großer Besitz mag ihm vonseiten seiner Frau Traula be devolved, the daughter of well-known on the town Pressburg Stadlans coupling Thebes [Supplement: and his wife Tessa] was "(p 288).

Remarks

By far the oldest grave stone of Jewish cemetery Mattersdorf / -burg (at least in the collection relates to Ohler). The age of the stone is also clearly visible on the form and content of the grave inscription.

Line 2 and 3: This is a "martyr" SacredTo "a just and perfect man (3) killed (slain) was. His blood may be avenged (will be avenged) " Killed avenge the blood.

Line 8 and 9: "Avigdor, S (ohn of) e (hrbaren) H (err) (Weerden preserved ÖGE) u (nd master) Simon Vienna, s (a memory) m. The father is therefore to Zeipunkt the violent (!) Death of his son also died already.

Line 9 to Line 11: "He was killed (murdered) and buried on day 5 (= Thursday) 23 Adar 488 Killed and buried on the W Maple swelled.

Max Grunwald leads the grave stone in his work "Mattersdorf" (Information of the Society for Jewish Folk 1924-1925, p 499f) to (see also Kommentar von Chaya-Bathya Markovits). The transcript Grunwald to be played to the letter in its entirety here:

Abigdor b. Simon Wien 1728 (violent death)

PT holy righteous man killed avenge the blood requiring the commandments bloody business, "and all the glory loud loud sat fasting on most days of Rabbi Avigdor Bhr"r Messrs Simon Wynn was killed and buried on the" twenty-fifth of Maple TAP "H octavo Thia soul bound in the bond of life with the rest of the righteous in heaven.

Note: Grunwald reading at line 10 "... on day 5, 25 Adar ... (!)" On the twenty-fifth of AdarSo reads a final Kaf and Hey! The "He" can not be correct because the 25th of Adar was a Shabbat, the final Kaf I myself am not sure (it looks indeed afterwards off), but could not explain to me the sense of it so (why not כ is used)?

Ohler, in turn identifies the last line wrong and believes there to recognize the name of the mother.
Likewise Oehler expects the date wrong by!

  • Foto: Grabstein von Rosa Theresa Sommer / Resl Sommer, 09. Adar I 5668
  • Datenblatt Isidor Öhler: Rosa Theresa Sommer / Resl Sommer, 09. Adar I 5668

Remarks

Ohler holds the inscription for "For the most part illegible". To a certain degree this is correct because Ohler had only photo available. Increases we can read quite well the inscription but today.

After the two-line introduction, by the way, without the introductory text Here lies or similar "Here lies / is safe", followed by line 3 to 5 of the first name of the deceased "Tessa" and the mention of the most prominent family:

Line 4: "widow of the late Morenu Pinchas Sommer, A (uf persuaded that) F (rieden) " Widow of the deceased like "Philippe Zammar Ah.

It looks to Öhlers copy so when he would Late "The late" hold for a first or last name.

Line 5, "and daughter of Morenu Josef Güns-Schlesinger, S (a memory) (to be preserved ÖGE) m " A daughter like her, "Joseph Guinness Schlesinger Zell.

The mother of Tessa is therefore Rosa Schlesinger (partitioned Radisch), the brother Jakob Schlesinger / Akiba Güns-Schlesinger.

Morenu literally means "u (ur) L (ehrer), H (err)". The Morenu title received only very learned men, Bernhard Wachstein called him a "synagogue doctorate" (see Bernhard Wachstein, The inscriptions of the Old Jewish cemetery in Vienna, the first part of 1540 (?) - 1670, the second part of 1696 to 1783, Vienna 1912, part 2, p 15).

The eulogy is divided in the first part of two columns (left / right), including the third part centered.

The entire eulogy has also Namensakrostycha on (lines 6-14), both her first name and title and first name of her father mentioned:

right column:
(6) bis (9): „Resl“

left column:
(6) a (10): "Tochter des Morenu"

centered:
(11) to (14): "Josef"
Iron bat like Joseph.

Line 15 and 16 call date of death: "They died m (it good) N (amen) 9 of M (onats) Adar I (16) in the year 668 (oh the small calendar)" I got rid Bst humid day "Adar in T"r"s"h" octavo (= Tuesday, February 11, 1908).
Not quite sure to read is the one figure of the dying year. It could also T"r"s"h, So 665 are read. Then the date of death would be Tuesday, February 14, 1905!

In the genealogy portal "geni.com" we find Rosa Theresa Summer with death in 1920 (sic!), which I can not understand! They also run there as a woman of "Shmuel Bunim Philipp summer". "Samuel"Would, however, the name of the father of Philip Summer, who died already 1859th
Anyway, the first name "Rosa Theresa" was taken over for us in the title of the article and for indexing.

Foto Duplikat I. Öhler: Josef, Sohn des Abraham, 08. Tevet 5611

Remarks

After the introduction, in line 1 to follow in line 2 to 4 honorific title, first name of the deceased, and honorific title and first name of the father: "D (as) i (st) d (s) e (hrbare) Morenu (3) Joseph, (4) son d (it respectable) L (ehrers) u (nd master) Abraham, s (a memory) (to be preserved ÖGE) m Ah like "Joseph Lehrer" Avraham, The father was therefore also already dead at the time of the death of his son.

Lines 5 to 7 indicate the date of death: "S (a soul) g (ing away) and he was buried with good names (= in good standing) on the eighth Tevet, on a Friday 611 n (oh the) k (!) (linen) Z (eitrechnung) Beijing and was buried in the name of good beast of Tevet on wasteland responsa writing can begin Peck.

In the very long and beautiful eulogy his first name and the first name of his father and the blessing found as acrostic from line 8 to 17:
(8) horizontal: „Josef“
(8) to (11): "Josef"
(12) horizontal: „S(ohn) d(es ehrbaren) H(errn)“
(13) to (16): "Abraham" (last two letters in line 16 horizontal)
(17) horizontal, "his memory may be preserved"
Joseph Behar "Abraham of blessed memory.

The blessing in line 17 is not - as usually - abbreviated, but since read in the context of the line, announced: "His memory should be preserved so should be passed (are told) from father to son" Of blessed memory will be told from father to son.

Line 5 of the eulogy (total line 12) indicates that the deceased was an elderly man: "On the mountain of God, he went up, aged and sick in years' (Genesis 35,29, Job 42,17, etc.)" Behar "God came seven days old.
Update 22. 12. 2014: "Mature" would certainly correspond with his birth in 1770th So he's passed away at 80 years, see comments below!

Very nice solution at the first word of the line 5 of the eulogy (total line 12): The reason that Behar " has "Mountain," a shortcut characters that status-constructus form was therefore not finished writing (Mountains) Is that the truncated version as "S (ohn) d (it respectable) H (err)" in acrostic is readable.

Line 8 of the eulogy (total line 15) eventually calls his function in the community, "Chairman and Head was (it) in his community, a community of men of understanding" Head and Leader hi "intelligent audience Choir.

Max Grunwald leads the grave stone in his work "Mattersdorf" (Information of the Society for Jewish Folk 1924-1925, p 502) to (see also Kommentar von Chaya-Bathya Markovits). The copy should Grunwald original letters completely and reproduced lines meet here:

Cho"h Josef b. Abraham 1851

F"h a righteous man, God-fearing many back from sin Messrs son of Rabbi Yosef Bhr"r Avraham YN and was buried in the name of good beast of Tevet on As"k Tri"a octavo
Joseph was his brother every day Hamashbir
And sit firmly tied sturdy oaks
Turned away from evil and do good and innocent gone way
Retired starving and clothed the naked cover
The Mount of God came seven days old
Father smarter was the glory of the wise
His righteousness was to return home to rest
Head and Leader hi "intelligent audience Choir
They will testify that Hi "Prime Perfume
Will be told of the fathers of blessed memory Drives.

At the beginning of line 1 Grunwald reads my opinion wrong, it read: Here lies, So "H (ier is / is) g (eborgen)".

Furthermore, the 8th Tevet (5) 611 still falls in the December 1850!
