Notes and biographical notes

This grave stone we open a truly great and famous family tree.

Of course, we are in the third row, preceded by the name Akiba, the Morenu title.

Morenu literally means "u (ur) L (ehrer), H (err)". The Morenu title received only very learned men, Bernhard Wachstein called him a "synagogue doctorate" (see Bernhard Wachstein, The inscriptions of the Old Jewish cemetery in Vienna, the first part of 1540 (?) - 1670, the second part of 1696 to 1783, Vienna 1912, part 2, p 15).

The bourgeois name (in the German documents) of Akiba Güns-Schlesinger is Jacob Schlesinger, see esp. The Comment by Chaya Bathya (Claudia) Markovits below.

In line 4, the father is called: Morenu Josef Güns Schlesinger (see also Wikitree).

Lines 5 and 6 of the deceased's mother are given to: (5) partitioned off Radisch (see also Wikitree), (6) granddaughter (lit: "Daughter Daughter") of the great scientist and Morenu Akiba Eger, s may (a memory) b (ewahrt) The Gaon year-old daughter of the late WR Akiva Eiger.

See our blog post "Akiva Eger and Chatam Sofer„.

The graves of the parents and the grandfather Akiva Eger on older Jewish cemetery in Eisenstadt are every year by many (Orthodox) visited Jews from around the world that keep the memory of these great personalities.

In line 7, we read that Akiba Schlesinger in his 56th year of life died, he was therefore born in 1843 (in Bratislava).

The date of death is called at line 8: At Sch (abbat) Q (odesch), parashah "Vayigash" (Genesis 44,18 "(Judah) came near"), on 7 Tevet 658 (= Shabbat, January 1, 1898) On Shek P. "Vayigash M" Tevet Trn"h.
